Jaundice
Jaundice is a yellow color in the skin, the mucous membranes, or the eyes. The yellow pigment is from bilirubin. Bilirubin is a byproduct of old red blood cells. Blirubin is the yellow color you see when a bruise is healing.
causes jaundice
Bilirubin comes from red blood cells. When red blood cells get old, they are destroyed. Hemoglobin, the iron-containing chemical in red blood cells that carries oxygen, is released from the destroyed red blood cells after the iron it contains is removed. The chemical that remains in the blood after the iron is removed becomes bilirubin.
Symptoms and Complications of Jaundice
When you are jaundiced, your skin and the whites of your eyes are yellow. Sometimes, people who eat a lot of carrots or beta-carotene tablets take on a yellowish colour. This is called carotenemia, and can be easily distinguished from jaundice because the whites of the eyes don’t turn yellow.
Jaundice Treatment:
Proper diet and exercise is the simplest form of jaundice therapy. But if your condition is serious, your recovery will also be slow. These cases can be caused by obstruction or pressure in the bile ducts. Take rest till the symptoms subside. Go on a juice fast for about 5 days. Juices of orange, lemon, grapes, pear, carrot, beet and sugarcane are very helpful. Take hot water enema daily to ensure the regularity in the bowel movements, which eliminates the wastes and prevents the absorption of the decomposed, poisonous matter into the blood stream. Continue with the juice fast till the acute symptoms subside.
