Weight loss is a time-honored struggle that doesn’t seem to be getting any easier. While diet and exercise are the two most influential factors in maintaining a healthy weight, progressive thinkers are increasingly turning to alternative measures to aid in weight loss. Herbs are plant extracts that are being used to treat hundreds of ailments and conditions, including excess weight. Although they are only just gaining popularity in the West, they have long been a health maintenance staple in many other parts of the world.
Weight Loss Herbs
cambogia to help weight loss
This herb is rich in a substance called hydroxycitric acid, or HCA, which is believed to promote weight loss by blocking the conversion of sugars and starches into fats. In addition to inhibiting fat production, it is also thought to aid in suppressing appetite by raising certain brain chemicals, such as serotonin.
L-GLUTAMINE
HOW IT WORKS: When blood sugar levels drop, cravings tend to follow because your brain isn’t getting the fuel it needs. “L-glutamine, an amino acid, instantly fuels the brain, which stops the code red that makes you crave sweets and starchy foods,” says Ross. Evidence also suggests that L-glutamine might facilitate weight loss by affecting the conversion and storage of calories. In a 1996 study at Duke University Medical Center, researchers found that supplementation with L-glutamine caused weight loss in mice.

Dandelion
A wonder herb that replaces minerals, takes away bad cholesterol and fatty acids before they make their way into fat cells through the bloodstream; it enhances our body’s metabolism and is also a mild laxative. While dandelion is considered one of the more safer diuretics … it’s still a diuretic and any long term use of a diuretic can produce a few less than perfect results. Prolonged use of dandelion can cause electrolyte imbalance.
