Common baldness, sometimes called male- or female-pattern baldness, accounts for 99 percent of hair loss in men and women. Although its exact causes are unknown, heredity, hormones and age are contributing factors. Unlike hair loss resulting from disease or other non-hereditary factors, hair loss due to common baldness is permanent.

No hair loss treatment is required if the person is comfortable with her appearance.
The only drug or medication approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat female pattern baldness is minoxidil, used topically on the scalp. For women, the 2% concentration is recommended. Minoxidil may help hair to grow in 20% to 25% of the female population, and in the majority it may slow or stop the loss of hair.

Treatment is expensive, however. Hair loss recurs when minoxidil’s use is stopped.
Antiandrogens are a class of drugs used as treatment for baldness. These drugs block the action of the hormone DHT (dihydrotestosterone) preventing it from weakening hair follicles. Finasteride, Dutasteride, Ketoconazole, and Saw palmetto are the more commonly used types of Antiandrogens. Finasteride is prescribed to male patients only.

Diet and lifestyle adjustment is also considered as a contributing factor for baldness cure. Reducing fat or caloric intake has been found to promote hair growth. Some studies show that adding caffeine to a shampoo may prevent baldness to some degree. However, the role of dietary caffeine in promoting hair growth has not been investigated yet.  Daily aerobic exercise (or vigorous activity), stress-free lifestyle, and lower levels of insulin have all been shown to check hair loss and bolster up healthy hair growth.

To avoid hair loss and have good healthy hair, a good nutritional diet is needed. This diet needs to be rich in organic whole foods such as fruit, vegetables, whole grains, poultry, fish, eggs, beans, nuts and seeds which are a rich source of vital nutrients needed for healthy hair roots and the protein keratin. Try not to skip meals, reduce salt, sugar, tea, coffee and chocolate intake, avoid stress, comb your hair gently and avoid using strong chemicals on your hair such as perms and color treatments. Vegetarians are prone to hair loss because their diet generally lacks the important nutrients, vitamin B12, iron and lysine. Vegetarians need to be aware of this and supplement their diet.

Nettle Root Extract for Baldness Treatment

Nettles are rich in vitamins A and C, several key minerals and lipids that can be beneficial to the hair. Nettle Root Extract has been used successfully in Europe as an inhibitor of 5-alpha reductase in treating BPH.

Rosemary and Sage for Baldness Treatment

Rosemary and sage are two herbs that have shown benefit traditionally when used externally. Boil together in water rosemary, sage, peach leaf, nettle and burdock. Then strain the loose herbs from the liquid and use the liquid to wash the hair daily.
